Very nice change of pace—wouldn’t fool a die-hard coffee-holic, but it’s still plausible. Enjoying it with milk and a teeny bit of maple syrup.

Nearing the end of my bag; saving what’s left for stone-cold, wickedly grey, dreary evenings. (And the weather’s kind of yucky, too ;)

This is as close to coffee as I need to get. The chicory is just sweet enough to make additions unnecessary (though it’s tasty with milk and sugar). Roasty, toasty, and comfy.

OMGsrsly

Oh, I need to try this. It’s gluten free, and most chicory based coffee substitutes aren’t. Thanks for writing about it again!

Weather forecast missed it by a mile: “party sunny” turned out to be bone-chilling fog giving way to cold spritz. Was rummaging around this evening in the decaf basket, trying to find something heavy and strong enough to chase off the blugggh and found a few remaining packets of this stuff.

No, it won’t fool a coffee drinker. But the roasted chicory is sweet and savory at the same time; it’s pleasant and filling with milk. I think I’ve mentioned before that if you like(d) Celestial Seasonings Roastaroma (is that still around?) or Morning Thunder, this is a similar but slightly beefier brew.

Foggy here this morning as we drove to Durham. I think it rained last night and that certainly wasn’t in the forecast. But it did warm up into the 70’s as promised so I’m not complaining!

Have you ever had Postum? I wonder if this is similar…

gmathis

No, haven’t had the pleasure of Postum…just looked at ingredients online; no molasses in the Ersatz, but I’d think the roasted grain would make it similar. I like this.

After a month of temps dancing 10-20 degrees above normal, we’ve plummeted back into a wet, raw, typical early April day and I am chilled to the bone.

This not-quite-coffee with a little sugar and milk is hearty enough to stick to your ribs and warm you a bit.

(Hope it warms up for tomorrow—thinking about my poor, skinny little fifth graders who will insist on wearing their sleeveless Easter dresses to church regardless of the weather and will show up with frostbitten little arms and legs :)

The research and side reading I did for this review was as much fun as trying the not-quite-tea itself:

Another one for further consideration and meditation before writing it up for www.itsallabouttheleaf.com. Makes a nice companion WWII-era coffee-ration drink for what I’m reading…an early review copy of “Mr. Churchill’s Secretary” by Susan Elia MacNeal. Due out officially next month or April, I believe. Female British expatriate mathematician returns to London and subsequently gets a job as a typist to Winston, which she believes to be be beneath her, but … the plot’s still thickening.

I have had this one for a really long time too! I have been afraid to try it. I’ll admit.
It smells and looks like coffee once infused/steeped. It’s mellower tho – thankfully. I can taste the rice and peas but paired with the chicory it seems to make sense.

Gutsy combo and I understand the appeal for those who are coffee fans, I suppose. It’s ok…not loving it but it’s better than I thought it would be.

Not a fan of coffee? Possibly a fan of genmaicha? Sensitive to caffeine? This may be up your alley. It’s a coffee substitute utilizing chicory, roasted rice and roasted peas. It took me awhile to get past the rice, personally. I’m not one for steeping rice…only eating it. However, at a bare-minimum steep (and doses of milk and sweetener), it was a damn good “coffaux”.
