Not the best kombucha in the world, but definitely hit the spot today. I have a ton of kombucha in my fridge right now, so I’m trying to find the right balance between drinking all of it right away to clear fridge space and leaving myself a small reserve for afternoons where the apartment gets too hot and I need a most instant cool down…
This is my least favourite of the fridge kombucha’s so it was the first to bite the dust.
Not the first rootbeer flavoured kombucha I’ve had – but definitely the worst.
I expected great things from this kombucha, which I’ve now tried twice, because the Cream Soda flavour from this same company was so mind blowing and good. However, it’s a pale shadow of root beer. Like, don’t get me wrong – I know that isn’t going to taste like an exact recreation of root beer and I don’t expect it to – but what I got instead tasted very watery and flat – like a root beer that once had a bunch of ice cubes in it that have now melted and just thinned everything out.
It was a let down.
So, it’s been a little while since I last had this kombucha but honestly it’s much better than I remember it being. Perhaps the bottle that I’m drinking today is just a better batch/brew that what I’ve previously had? Anyway, it’s quite delicious and accurate to the pink Crush cream soda I remember from my childhood…
Had this w/ lunch today – enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time but interestingly I found today’s “mug” of it (bottle?) was almost most of that sweet and candy sweet Double Bubble/Bazooka Joe bubble gum kind of taste!
As long as my grocery store keeps stocking this I’ll probably keep buying it though…
This is a really cool kombucha that I bought ages ago from the Walmart near my house – I was waiting to write about it because it was apparently a “very new” flavour and the official Cedar website didn’t have any information on it up yet. However, I’m getting tired of putting off the tasting note and it’s been weeks now with no update so I’m just writing it anyway…
Visually, this kombucha has the same almost neon/flourescent and deeply unnatural pink hue of the “Crush” brand of cream soda that I grew up with as a kid. That was always one of my favourite kinds of soda (along with rootbeer) – probably because it hardly has an actual flavour apart from just intense sugary sweetness with like a hint of cream/vanilla. I had such an intense sweet tooth as a kid. Still do, really – but a little less so. Already just seeing the same colour had me really excited for this though; it was the nostalgia of childhood Cream Soda, but presumably a lot more ‘better for me’ because it’s kombucha.
And actually, the taste is SOLID. I mean, it’s got a hint of that vinegar-y sourness in the top of the sip and the fizziness hits you in a much different feeling way than the carbonation of soda but the taste is pretty dead on Crush or Fanta cream soda. It’s actually a much closer match than I could have ever expected it to be, just a little tangyer and a little less sugary for the sake of being sugary.
However, this is a kombucha I could probably drink over and over again without tiring of it and I think probably a pretty accessible way to introduce someone to kombucha.
So, after trying and not loving the Tangerine Kombucha from this company I did decide to go out and get one of their other flavors next time I was at the grocery store. Let me tell you, I wish I had started with this one, because it tasted great. Definitely more fizzy/fermented feeling, with a touch of a vinegar-y quality that played really nicely into the lemon notes present. Mostly, just a bunch of really well conveyed sweet cherry notes though. Notes that felt more like the sweet taste of really perfectly ripe cherries, and less so of artificial or candy cherry.
Very much liked this one – would definitely buy it again.
A grocery store find that I really have no background on. It was fine flavour wise, though not overly fizzy. Maybe more of a tangerine juice sort of vibe over a tea/kombucha though? The grocery store I got this at had some of the company’s other flavours though, so I might continue to try the rest of the line up and see if there are any interesting offerings.
